API Mashups have been around for about a decade now, but they’re still just as valuable and important as ever since they enable more product innovation, better user experiences, and stronger startups.

And just in case you’re not sure what an API mashup is, we’re talking about a site or app that’s created using two data or functionality sources, aka two or more APIs. API mashups are a result of the co-creation culture inherent to most developers.

As more and more businesses open up APIs and release open source software, there is more and more potential for developers to create and build. Here’s a quick history of API mashups, followed by some exciting mashup possibilities we would love to see.
