We are really pleased to announce that we have a new space for our Wednesday class. (Moorlands Community Centre — In Brixton off Coldhabour Lane)

Our first class after the summer will be this week on the 10th of September at 7.30pm. We will be showing the film Jogo de Corpo — Capoeira e Ancestralidade /Body games — Capoeira and Ancestry.

Everybody who comes gets a free ticket to our raffle of (now out of print and rare) the book ‘Capoeira/ Encontros’ by Fred Abreu and Mauricos Barros de Castro with interviews of Capoeira Masters .

The video Jogo de Corpo/Body Games will be shown. The film follows the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira master, Cobra Mansa and his team on travels through Angola and Brazil in search of the historical roots of Capoeira. It is also a personal journey as Cobra Mansa is a descendant of slaves who were brought from Africa to build Brazil.

Accompanied by Capoeira historian Matthias Röhrig Assunção, and ethnomusicologist Christine Dettman, Cobra Mansa finds an Angola full of amazing characters amidst a culture rich with musical, dance and combat game traditions.

Directed by Namibian Filmmaker, Richard Pakleppa, and edited by Catherine Meyburgh Angolan Roots of Capoeira or Jogo de Corpo/Body Games has just been released and has already won awards.
