Roda this Wednesday — Montly Roda Memorias da Gengibirra

Its already that time again!. The Memorias da Ginigbirra Roda again this Wednesday with FICA London (http://ficalondon.org/) in Stockwell.

All are welcome to join our joint monthly roda.

The Roda will be at the YMCA Stockwell — just a few steps down the Stockwell Road from the tube station.

To get us all in the mood below is another Pastinha video from from the 1960s. Lots of really interesting details in this video to think about — just look at how its changed since the other video from the 50s.

Its a French TV film and was made just after Brazil and Bahia had become a focus for academics for its African heritage.

A generation of academics and young researchers, many financed by UNESCO, focused on racial issues in daily life in Brazil for the first time. While sometimes misguided and prejudiced much of the attention that Capoeira, Candomble and racial issues in Brazil got in terms of the international media in the 60s came from this academic work.
