From virtual fitting rooms in stores to immersive demonstrations of items in online catalogs, AR is elevating luxury to new heights. Let’s explore how some prestigious brands are using AR to increase customer engagement and conversion rates; before looking at how to implement this cutting-edge technology into shopping with Cappasity.

Burberry

The global luxury brand Burberry teamed up with Google to develop an AR shopping journey via Google’s iOS application. The companies created AR models of two signature Burberry items: the Burberry Black TB bag and the Arthur Check sneaker. When customers search for these items in Google Search, the Google app provides 3D visuals of the products, superimposed on a real backdrop.

Chanel

Back in 2011, Chanel embarked on its AR adventure with the debut of its mobile app, which allowed shoppers to virtually try on the latest J12 watch, all from the comfort of their homes. Fast forward six years and we see the integration of AR smart mirrors into Chanel store fitting rooms. As of January 2020, Chanel’s Paris flagship store boasted four such technologically advanced rooms. These smart mirrors identify garments brought into the room, promptly showcasing the complete runway look to the user.

Gucci

Gucci has unveiled its “shoppable AR” line through two unique Snapchat Lenses. They allow users to virtually try on four different pairs from Gucci’s latest collection. This innovative e-commerce approach is a convenient way of enabling customers to buy an actual pair straight from the website using the “Shop Now” button.

How to implement AR into luxury shopping

Cappasity offers the first scalable solution for the fast production and easy embedding of 3D/AR content into websites, mobile apps, classifieds and marketplaces. It includes the SaaS platform, the Easy 3D Scan software for content production, and API/SDK for integration scenarios. The Cappasity platform allows clients to create, analyze, and embed immersive content.

The platform supports general content formats, including 3D models. So, if you have a ready-made 3D model of an item then you can upload it directly on the Cappasity platform with a couple of clicks. Once the 3D model is uploaded you can embed it into your online catalog. Retailers can also activate the AR view for the 3D model on their websites for the delivery of online AR shopping experiences with our player. Mobile users will be able to instantly launch the AR experience on their smartphones, while desktop users will only need to scan the QR code leading to the AR experience. QR codes are generated automatically by the platform and don’t require any additional effort on the client’s behalf.

We’ve developed our proprietary data format too, solving the problem of fast and affordable content production. The technology allows you to create AR Holograms of items without manual 3D modeling. It is a simple matter of shooting a video and processing it using the Cappasity Easy 3D Scan software. An AR Hologram is created within as little as 20 minutes, where it usually takes multiple days.

Cappasity AR Holograms provide animated views, allowing shoppers to see materials in movement and better envision how the desired items would fit. They can be used not only in e-commerce, but also in brick-and-mortar stores. Retailers can print QR codes redirecting shoppers to AR Holograms and add them to item tags for the realization of an AR-based shopping experience. The consumer simply needs to scan a QR code with their smartphone to explore a whole outfit or separate items in the surrounding environment. Using AR to view fashion pieces allows consumers to get a clearer sense of their real-life appearance, enhancing the shopping experience by making it more interactive and user-friendly.
