Alter Agents, Snap Inc., and Publicis Media have published the key findings of the new research exploring how consumers are currently using AR in their shopping process. Data was collected from 4,028 online shoppers between the ages of 13 and 49 in the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and France. The study found that AR shopping tools have a significant impact on customers’ online shopping experience. AR builds customer confidence. According to the research, 80% of AR shoppers feel more confident in their online purchases after experiencing the items through AR. The point is that AR provides consumers with many different ways of exploring a product — from visualizing it in a real-life environment to trying it on from the comfort of their home. As a result, online shoppers get a more complete and accurate understanding of the product.

AR helps shoppers make the right choice. When it comes to choosing a product, AR provides confidence to consumers that they’re making the right decision. That’s why 66% of shoppers who use AR are less likely to return their purchases.

AR makes the shopping experience easier and more engaging for consumers, Snap concluded, as 1/4 of respondents used AR as a substitute for in-person shopping across categories including clothing, consumer packaged goods, retail and travel.

AR increases purchase intention. The study found that 7 out of the 10 the top drivers for purchase intent are AR features, including virtual try-on, visualization, and smart features, beating out more “traditional” ways of shopping like online display, video, and online marketplace search and suggestions.

AR shopping tools are on the rise. According to the research, 3/4 of respondents believe AR is the future of shopping, and they will continue to use the technology.
