Shooting a model in a 3D format can significantly speed up the process of content making for e-commerce fashion catalogues, since the 3D format allows you to shoot up to 100 outfits per day, which is next to impossible with conventional fashion shoots. Here at Cappasity we have prepared a set of foolproof instructions on how to get the perfect 3D View of a model in just a few simple steps.
To create the perfect 3D View with a model, you will need:
- 4 studio lights with at least 200W for the background
- A 4K camera
- A white backdrop
- 2 studio lights with at least 200W to light the model
- A diffuser
First, you need to set the camera axis horizontally and evenly light the background. To mimic natural, soft light, you will need to add additional lights to the floor under the model.
An evenly lit background is the key to having a high-quality 3D View, so if you have any dark areas in the corners of the background, change the direction of the light. For the best results, the background should be solid white.
To avoid overexposed areas on the model’s hands, you can also change the position of the lights. The model’s skin tone should look natural in the frame.
Types of movements and posing for the Cappasity 3D View
3D Easy Scan technology allows the model to fully show the outfit from all angles by freely moving around and walking across the background. The model can also walk diagonally or walk towards the camera to show the clothes in movement.
If the model is posing on a rotating platform, they can either hold a static pose or move freely to show how the clothes look in movement.
To get the correct looping of the 3D View, the model must come back to the initial pose at the end of the shooting cycle. Then, to loop the 3D View, you must combine the first and last frame in align mode. If the poses do not match, you could get a jump in the 3D View.
Tips for photographers:
In order to prevent smudging, choose a shutter speed of 1/125 or faster, and to prevent blurring, choose an aperture of f/8, f/11 or smaller, depending on the type of camera you’re using.
Tips for models:
To get the best 3D View results, the model should follow these simple guidelines:
- Avoid fast and repetitive movements
- Move smoothly during the rotation
- Blink less often
By following these simple steps, you can achieve the best 3D Views results that will literally make your products jump off the page. Using Easy 3D Scan technology will save you many hours in the studio making similar pictures for e-catalogues. It will also increase the time your customers spend on the product page and increase interaction with the products, which, in turn, will convert into higher sales rates.
