Web3 and immersive tech are top technology trends in 2022

McKinsey’s recently published report named Web3 and immersive-reality technologies as two of 14 key technology trends emerging this year. Let’s look through the key insights of their analysis and see what benefits these technologies bring to retail.

Web3 is one of the most significant technology trends in 2022. According to McKinsey, Web3 includes platforms and applications that enable shifts toward a future, decentralized internet with open standards and protocols while protecting digital ownership rights. It provides users with greater data ownership and control over how their data is monetized, while catalyzing new business models.

The industries that have begun to adopt and shape Web3 include gaming, digital art and media, financial services, IT and electronics, and retail. McKinsey’s experts explain in the report.

Web3 will take retail to the next level. Thanks to Web3, engagement channels and data ownership will shift away from being business-centric to consumer-centric. Among the innovations Web3 will bring to retail are:

  • new channels and methods for customer acquisition, engagement, and retention (e.g. Web3 loyalty programs, Web3 marketing through airdrops);
  • new product categories to express brand identity in digital native form (e.g. digital twins of physical products);
  • new digital environments for customer engagement, potentially connected across different Web3 channels.

Immersive-reality is also one of the main technology trends in 2022. The industries that could be most affected by the trend are manufacturing, retail, education, real estate, healthcare, and transportation. Within the retail space, immersive-reality enables brands to create 3D catalogs, digital showrooms, and interactive try-on.

Immersive-reality technology comes with many benefits for businesses, including:

  • more efficient product prototyping and test simulations with the creation of digital twins that enable virtual walk-throughs of physical environments or new physical products;
  • the introduction of new products and services, engaging consumers in new ways and enhancing customer experiences;
  • cost savings as a result of more effective product development, improved processes, and scalable, quality-assured training, etc.

Here at Cappasity, we believe that Web3 and immersive technologies will open limitless opportunities to businesses. That’s why we’re launching a solution for creating NFT-based loyalty programs that will help brands get into Web3, add extra value to their products, and engage with their customers in a memorable way.

A Cappasity NFT differs from other digital assets because it can contain not only photos and videos, but also text (e.g. a brand’s history); immersive content (3D/3D View visualization, AR holograms, virtual try-on); VIP perks and benefits, like personalized discounts, invitations to events, priority access to new product launches; and more. Brands can add new content to NFTs even after their customer gets the token, which allows them to use Cappasity NFTs as a new customer communication channel.

On top of that, Cappasity provides the first end-to-end solution for the fast production, easy embedding, and powerful analysis of 3D and AR content. Immersive content, like interactive 3D product images, has been proven to make online shopping more interactive and engaging, improving the overall customer experience. It allows online shoppers to examine a product like they would in real life, truly seeing the quality and details so they can then purchase with confidence.
