Reporting and storytelling from seniors in the Journalism + Design program at The New School.

Emily Alexander is a New York based journalist who is originally from Illinois. She has written about a wide range of topics including bicycle laws in NYC, fashion news, the consequences of online learning and more. Emily can be reached through her Instagram, @emilyalexe.

Nicole Collazo Santana is a journalist from Caguas, Puerto Rico currently based in New York City. She is pursuing the Bachelors / Masters program at The New School for Journalism + Design and Creative Publishing & Critical Journalism. Always with coffee in one hand, she enjoys writing about arts, culture, fashion, entertainment, and more. In her free time, Nicole likes to spend time in the sun, travel, and dance. Ann Kristine Estaris is a New York-based journalist and writer. Her work includes the exploration of arts, culture, and human interest stories. A self-appointed gourmand, she can be found indulging in new recipes in her free time.

Joseph Gobran is a Middle Eastern journalist born in Beirut and raised in Cairo. His interests range from sports to international affairs. As well as having experience in creative writing, he has interned for Jetset Times as an Editorial Intern and hopes to continue working in the editorial world.

Lu Mejia Gutierrez is a Colombian dancer, journalist and visual artist who is passionate about the way different mediums can be used for storytelling and communicating ideas. Aiming to speak through more than words, telling a story however it fits best. She’s worked closely with New York City based artists as a video editor for The Artists Forum, writer for Dancegeistand the in-house graphic designer for The Dance Safe. Lauren Ariel Hoffman is a photojournalist and visual storyteller from Royersford, Pennsylvania, who focuses her lens on the small moments of human life. She has written and taken photos for many publications, covering the Climate Strike in New York, the 2020 Presidential Election, and has worked with National Geographic previous to her time in New York City. She covers everything from healthcare to human interest, but overall prefers to cover stories that speak to real people, dealing with real things. Currently she is freelancing for a design company and loving every minute of it (but is hoping for a real job too)! Madeleine Janz is a journalist and fashion enthusiast in the joint Bachelors/Masters Journalism program at The New School in New York City. She writes about politics and identity at the intersections of women’s issues, arts/entertainment, and fashion for publications like Document Journal, i-D, and BUST Magazine among others. Marissa Matozzo is a music and culture journalist, pursuing, finding and writing stories centering around local indie music since high school. She has interned at as many New York City-based music and culture publications, including PAPER Magazine, Paste Magazine, Bandsintown Music Group, The Knockturnal. She can often be found with a press pass and camera at any indie or underground show around talking to sources, at record shop, in the pit at concerts, in recording studios and even striking up a conversation with someone wearing a band tee on the street. Tyler Naimoli is a children’s book writer, illustrator, cartoonist, graphic novelist, and game designer with a dual degree in Illustration and Journalism + Design at Parsons/The New School in New York City. He sees journalism as a means to help address social issues in fiction. He also writes about events in the world of children’s books on his blog, the Naimoli Children’s Books Blog, and posts his personal work on his website Naimoli Universe.

Sabrina Picou is a Mexican-American freelance journalist from Los Angeles, California currently living in Brooklyn, New York. She covers news, local events, opinions, and arts and culture. India Roby is a freelance journalist from Memphis, TN based in New York City. Her beat includes fashion, culture, music, and news with bylines in Teen Vogue, V Magazine, VICE’s NBGA, and more. Rory Rucker is a 21–year-old writer, poet, and journalist. Her beats are news and entertainment, specifically fashion and music. She is a graduate of The New School, with a degree in Journalism & Design. She is originally from Colorado but currently resides in New York City. Ari Stark is a journalist from Atlanta, Georgia who is currently residing in New York City. Passionate about fashion from an early age, his work examines sartorial trends and news-related events and places them within a broader cultural context.

Natalie Vaval is an Afro-Latina journalist born & bred in New York, whose passions range from the arts, entertainment, everyday culture, and robust narratives. She has written cultural criticism for Medium’s Gen Magazine, and is currently fleshing out new stories at WeAreMitu. In her spare time you can find her quoting movie references, wandering through a quaint bookstore, or sipping on a cup of hazelnut coffee (iced and hot).
