The Benefits of Facebook

There are very few people who don’t have a Facebook account anymore. I have to admit, at first, I had my doubts as well. I was uncomfortable with putting all of my personal information online for anyone to access.

Why use Facebook when I have a cellphone, landline and can just talk to people face to face?

But the truth about Facebook is that it keeps you connected! It keeps you connected to your friends and family. I have moved coast to coast over the last couple of years and in those years I have lost touch with many friends because they have changed numbers, addressees and so on.

As Ilearned more about facebook I came to realize that there is a privacy setting, where you can choose who sees your pictures or facebook status. So I felt a little more comfortable posting my status and pictures.

Just the other day I had a friend request from one of my childhood buddies who I hadn’t seen since I was a young girl and thanks to Facebook I was able to reconnect with her. I went into her profile and looked at all her pictures and it feels like I caught up with all she had been doing through the time apart.

Another great thing about Facebook is that you are able to join different groups. Groups such as the Grand Forks Buy and Sell which is a really awesome tool. Instead of buying an item online there may be someone in your area that has the same item for less (either new or used). Coming from an area where not many stores are available for clothes and shoes, and other speciality items, the Grand Forks Buy and Sell is greatly appreciated.

People in the community, especially the older generation, are not as experienced with computers. I think it is important that we teach them about programs like facebook so they can keep more in touch with there friends and family.
