Carbo Culture’s founders Chris and Henrietta recently addressed Stanford University’s Earth Sciences Seminar on the properties of high quality biochar, how our technology works and how we are looking to scale our biochar production to a climate relevant scale over the next decade.

In the above video of our talk, Chris first talks about the natural carbon cycle and then recounts the history of pyrogenic carbon capture dating back to the man-made terra preta soil in the Amazonian Basin over two thousand years ago.

Even today, we’re still learning about and improving on all the ways biochar facilitates microbial processes, from animal feed to co-composting with biochar, and carbon negative materials.

In this lecture, we also look at our Flash Carbonisation technology, and demonstrate our test reactor.

Finally, in the last part of the video, we talk about our first market California and its biomass availability and challenges both urban and rural areas. Henrietta sheds light on our first market — cities struggling with urban tree die-off and how biochar helps improve soil properties.

Stanford, thanks for having us!
