Before, Bjørn, who is originally from Norway, spent 20 years at GE Power and Energy, managing engineering projects in gas turbines and thermal power plants around the world.

Five years ago, he made the jump to the startup world, joining a pyrolysis process startup Quantafuel, converting mixed plastics to virgin plastic and contributing to growing the team to over 100 people during his tenure as a CTO and VP, Engineering. Innovative solutions to plastics recycling are urgently needed around the world both to limit plastic leaching, and to lower CO2 emissions from plastic use. In addition to a similar startup growth stage, Bjørn sees some technical similarities with plastics pyrolysis and Carbolysis, the technology Carbo Culture is developing to capture and permanently sequester CO2.

Says Bjørn Dahlen: “Carbo Culture’s technology is unique and the opportunity to permanently remove CO2 is beyond exciting. Visiting our pilot plant in California last fall is what ultimately convinced me that this is the industry I want to dedicate this next phase of my career to. I look forward to leveraging what I’ve learned throughout my career to help move the company forward towards our north star vision of a Gigaton scale carbon removal.”

Says Henrietta Moon, CEO Carbo Culture: “We’re beyond excited to have Bjørn with us — his experience from leading an engineering company from invention to industrial scaleup is so critical to us as we develop our engineering team and processes to bring our solution to scale at an industry standard quality of deployment.”

Bjørn will be based in Oslo, working closely with our R&D teams in the US and Finland. In his spare time, Bjørn spends his time in the Norwegian mountains, skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.

Welcome to the team, Bjørn!
