Starting your morning off on the right foot is crucial to your overall health and mood. Rise and shine with a smile on your face when you follow these simple steps.

Stay away from the snooze button.

The few minutes of extra sleep you get by hitting snooze isn’t high quality, because it doesn’t last long enough for you to complete a sleep cycle. The result? you can wake up feeling more groggy, and nobody wants that.

Just breathe.

Take 10 minutes to meditate or simply focus on your breathing. According to the CDC, deep belly breathing can help reduce stress and make you more relaxed. Here’s how: relax your stomach muscles. Place one hand just below your ribs. Take a slow, deep breath through your nose and feel your hand go up with your breath. Next, breathe out slowly through your mouth.

Get Moving.

Carve out 30 minutes each day to get active. It could be taking a walk, stretching, or going to the gym. Living a sedentary lifestyle comes with serious health implications. In fact, in a 2015 meta-analysis in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, researchers found that individuals who engage in the highest levels of sedentary behavior are 25% more likely to be depressed than those who only sit occasionally.

Eat Smart.

Eating a healthy breakfast is associated with improved cognitive function, reduced absenteeism at work or school, and improved mood. Start the day smarter by eating a natural protein-rich breakfast like eggs and veggies or yogurt.
