Take a sad song and make it better

Have you noticed how we are becoming increasingly more isolated? Between all the fuss with “political correctness” and technological advances people are lacking that human interaction that make us well… human. The numbers of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and other diseases are increasingly high in the last few years. A lot of this comes as a result from less human interaction.

The funny thing is that nowadays a lot of people “avoid” human interaction but at the same time, they are getting into a lot of problems by doing this. In the workplace it’s no different. More and more systems and robots take over jobs and human interaction. On one hand, this is helping to make organizations more profitable, but on the other hand, employees get increasingly worried for their jobs and get treated like part of a process instead as people.

So we are still in this crossroad where we both lack of human interaction and this “employee experience” movement. How is it possible that we have both extremes happening at the same time? I mean, it’s ok to have technological advances that help us have an easier and more productive life, but when it gets to the point that it’s also building walls around people it won’t lead us to anything better as a society.

Let’s make it better. Human interaction is not just about being compassionate and kind, it’s also about developing critical thinking, listening and speaking skills, empathy, and knowledge. Everytime we take the chance to have a conversation with someone we might actually be learning new information that we can turn into knowledge. Take a chance to get away from everything and closer to everyone. Everybody has something to teach you like there’s always someone who could learn from you.
