Card Pay & Card Bridge on Mainnet

The Cardstack project has reached a milestone by delivering the first two protocols — Card Pay and Card Bridge — to mainnet. This particular mainnet deployment is delivered to the Ethereum mainnet as Layer 1 and the xDai chain as Layer 2. This allows our Card Pay and Card Wallet applications to tap into the proven reserve of Layer 1 like DAI, while also taking advantage of low-cost transactions on Layer 2 through the xDai chain.

With the success of the mainnet launch, we want to extend a big thank you to all of the early access beta members who helped us get this far. As a gesture of our appreciation, we will distribute rewards in CARD tokens to all testers who helped us test the early version between July and October. Additionally, we will distribute bonus tokens to the top 5 beta testers who provided invaluable feedback throughout the process.

To commemorate this mainnet event, we also distributed a POAP — using a proof-of-attendance protocol on the xDai chain — to the first 1000 claimants last week. Stay tuned for additional NFT rewards as we reach other milestones in the coming weeks.

Card Wallet on Android

While we have been busy preparing for the iOS release on TestFlight and getting Apple’s approval to distribute the app more widely, we haven’t forgotten about the Android users within our community. We have been working to reduce the differences between the iOS codebase and the Android codebase. As a result of this effort, we were able to create an internal alpha-quality version of Card Wallet.

Here is a quick screencast of Card Wallet by Cardstack running on a Google Pixel 5a device.

There are some display polish issues and missing features that will be under construction in the coming weeks. Once we feel the Android application reaches beta quality, we will submit the app to the Google Play Store and include Android users who have signed up for the early access program in an allow list, which will let them download the Android app before its public availability.

Update on Card Space

While our mobile team is continuing to fix bugs and push other developments, our dApp team is working on the Cardstack web app, which includes the Card Space functionality. There are a lot of features in the Card Space product that we are developing one by one. These will be made available regardless of the operating system, as they are rooted in a web-based experience. To be fair to all users, we will only release Card Space after the Android release.

Other Updates

This week, we brought together our US Eastern-based engineering team members for an in-person work session. The main topic of discussion was the continuation of the Card Compiler work, which is an R&D effort that has been ongoing and in parallel with our product development efforts. The main topic of discussion was to further integrate Web3 functions into the framework. Ultimately, we want to ensure that future developments on top of the Cardstack framework can be composable at the UI level, which allows us to mix Web2 and Web3 features seamlessly for the end user.
