What is your inspiration behind working in this domain?

My experience in working on projects under various domains helped me to find the one where my interest really lies- the “Digital Domain”. I used to set short-term goals and my small successes kept me motivated always. Also, failures brought improvement in the way — I should work.

How to prepare for this profile?

Basics must be strong in digital design (beyond class notes). And should perform as many projects as you can but (Quality matters a lot more than quantity) you need to understand what you are doing and what you will gain from it. Each project should differ from the previous in terms of at least some extra knowledge or experience earned. Companies are aware of your limitations to not always being able to implement things on hardware but they always have a point when it comes to you about going to the internet and at least performing some kind of software implementation on available platforms.

What was the selection process?

An online MCQ test — where you get questions from digital design, coding (both VHDL and VERILOG), and some basic knowledge of processors are required. After clearing the first stage, there is a coding round in Verilog or VHDL — where you are asked to code in a limited time frame — only one question. Then, there is an online interview in which they ask mostly about your projects and test your understanding of the domain.

Did you apply for this position previously as well and got rejected? Or, you got the offer on the first go?

In the selection process, I was interviewed previously 2 times and got rejected. The first time, I tried my luck under the CSE domain and the second time, I was chosen for a different domain (analog). According to my experience, in the first case, I chose something which was not my real interest, and for the second time, my lack of knowledge in that particular field resulted in me losing a big opportunity.

Any message to your juniors?

Hard work and awareness of the domain is really important with short term goals. Each and everything you do will help you know yourself better. But the most important thing is that you come up to the right conclusion from that and accordingly plan the next step.

We thank Eshika for providing us some great insights and answering the questions in-depth about her journey. We hope it helps other students preparing for similar roles.
