What are you doing presently?

I am currently working with ICA Pidilite, a joint venture of Pidilite and ICA. I am a product marketing manager handling the wood finishes business. As part of my job I need to ensure the product strategies are executed, gaps in products and range met through R&D, competition is studied and tackled across market, prices and margins maintained to fight competition and company profitability. I spend most of my time in office in planning, coordinating with the various divisions and executing the strategies. I am also required to go to the field to learn about the channels and competition.

What inspired you to dive into this specific field?

A mechanical engineer freshly out of college and working for an auto part manufacturing company, I could not identify myself with the job I was doing in production. After 2 year of working there I did MBA from IIM Kozhikode. For my current job of product management, an MBA is a must from a premium institute.

I have always thought ‘when do I get to apply what I have learned in college?’. The thing that I like the most about my current job is that I get to apply what I learned and liked in college.

How did you prepare for the profile?

For MBA entrance — doing a lot of timed tests helps.

For work — A well built CV, a few certificate courses and good internships/work experience.

Your message to those whose dreams resonate with your reality?

Although work experience has a weightage in MBA entrance and few job profiles post MBA, it is best to decide and do it as soon as possible to save these years.
