Human Trafficking In The World

It’s estimated that internationally there are between 20 million and 40
million people in modern slavery today.Human trafficking earns
global profits of roughly $150 billion a year for traffickers, $99 billion
of which comes from sexual exploitation.According to the Report,
the most common form of human trafficking (79%) is sexual
exploitation. The victims of sexual exploitation are mostly women
and girls. Surprisingly, in 30% of the countries which provided
information on the gender of traffickers, women make up the
largest proportion of traffickers. In some parts of the world,
women trafficking is the norm. The second most common form of
human trafficking is forced labour (18%), although this may be
wrong because forced labour is less detected and reported than
trafficking for sexual exploitation.Worldwide, almost 20% of all
trafficking victims are children. However,in some parts of Africa,
children are the majority (up to 100% in parts of West
Africa).Despite increased international attention and resources
from states and other non-governmental institutions, the
number of people falling victim to human trafficking around the
world continues to grow. Between 2008 and 2019 the number
of human trafficking victims identified worldwide more than
tripled from 30,961 to 105,787. Though such statistics also leadto investigators and human rights advocates as it suggests that
less focus has led to more problems. After all, trafficking in
persons is an illegal practice that is practiced secretly, and it is
therefore nearly impossible to measure it in its entirely.
