“I Shall not Surrender My Jhansi”

This is a famous quote from the great female warrior — Rani Laxmi Bai, who spoke these lines when she was at war in Jhansi against the Britishers who wanted to capture her kingdom.

Rani Laxmibai riding a horse with her son tied behind her back

Originally her name was Manikarnika, her childhood was not how a typical girl’s childhood was during ancient times. Manikarnika grew up with Nana Sahib and Tantya Tope, with whom she learned archery, sword-fight, horsemanship, fencing, and shooting.

She was fearless and courageous, unlike other girls of her age, and was strong both mentally and physically. Her personality trait included aspects of never admitting defeat and encountering difficulties even in the gravest situations. She had a sense and presence of mind even at a young age. Rani Laxmibai was civil, polite, intelligent, and a woman of high character. These virtues were demonstrated in a sufficient measure during her dealings with the people of Jhansi, who respected her very much. Rani Lakshmi Bai had an eye for detail. Instead of monitoring things from her palace, she went to every rampart and every gun to oversee the deployment. With her astute leadership, she also ensured that her troops gave a well-determined resistance at Jhansi, which included continuous bombardment from the Fort onto the advancing British forces. Rani Lakshmi Bai had the compassion of a great human being which helped her to become a powerful leader. She provided clothes to the beggars and attended to her wounded soldiers while they were being treated.

When Jhansi was attacked and under threat of being annexed by the British, Rani Laxmibai guarded her kingdom fiercely, this shows her mighty determination and valor, even though her army was very small against the British. She faced the British alone, riding on a horse and tying Damodar Rao, her son, behind her back. Rani Laxmibai died on June 17, 1858, after a massive fight. She was a courageous woman and a resolute warrior who challenged British rule with great determination and fought the British East India Company forces with unparalleled military prowess as no other rebel leader did.

According to the data, I have gathered on Laxmibai’s personality I believe she falls into the ENFJ category. It stands for (E) — Extraversion, (N) — Intuition, (F) — Feeling, (J) — Judging:

  • This personality trait is also known as the ‘Giver’ because they are compassionate and inspirational and motivational.
  • By building harmony among the people around them they make inspiring leaders that unite people together.
  • ENFJs feel joy in encouraging and helping others. They are able to intuitively see the potential in others.
  • Rani Laxmibai’s ‘giving’ nature to help tend wounds and personally meeting her people gives insight into her ENFJ traits.
