The food landscape has never been more dynamic, or fast-changing than it is now
The Internet has sped things up now, just as the Industrial Revolution did, back then. Then social media matured and increased that speed tenfold. Its primary area of growth is in anything linked to social — such as the hospitality industry.
Which leads me to how this piece came about. As I struggle with the many options available for my new upcoming restaurant, I find myself unsure of what concept to go with for the very first time.
Not a good sign.
I usually have the concept and menu done, and then look for the location. It must be said that this unit is slightly different … it will never be for sale. It is part of our retirement plan.
It will be my first true lifestyle operation. Its priority is not making money, although we do want that, its primary focus is on ensuring my/our lifestyle in retirement
I am not the shy retiring type. Neither is my wife. I surmise she would kill me in 5 days if I fully retired. So we devised this plan to build a business that allows me to retire with dignity and keep busy. My wife can lie on a sun lounger, unlike me … but is also very active.
