I Have Worked Remotely for 7+ Years. Not Everyone is Cut Out for It
You don’t hear this side of the story often
I am one of the people who weren’t surprised when companies started calling people to resume back in the office. There were two public reasons for this.
The first is the office spaces lying dormant and the huge leases attached to them. Commercial real estate prices took a severe hit.
The second is concerns about productivity. Most companies floated the idea that productivity dropped when people started working from home.
Well, the first reason, I understand. The second reason just makes me laugh when I think about it. They gave people the option of working from home without adequately training and preparing them for it. What do they expect?
I have been working remotely since 2018. Sometimes from home, and I have paid for workspaces also. When I got started I had to basically compete with people with “office-level” productivity.
So, when companies say that remote work reduces productivity, I don’t understand their thought process at all. But then I look at how their employees work remotely and I am not surprised.
If you want your employees to have a productivity level working from home that matches the office…
