No, remote jobs are not getting replaced by in-office jobs, even though it may appear so right now.

There is nobody who enjoyed remote work in the last couple of years who is happy to come back to the office. None!

In fact, I will say that everyone complying with the “return to office” policy now secretly hates their employer with passion. And for a good reason.

Hear me out on this one…

The Remote Inevitability

Yes, there are jobs that require physical presence.

You can’t operate heavy machinery at the factory from home (yet). I heard there are experiments (with 5G) on this in Japan, but the tech is very far from mature for the mainstream public.

But we know for a fact that the world is getting digital every year. The internet has gotten far bigger than anything we thought in the 90s.

Online shopping has absolutely decimated retail. Online gaming is growing at a faster pace than any physical equivalent. And this trend will not stop.

So, why do we think things would be different on the work front?
