Simple steps to reaching your goals in 2020

It’s almost 40 days into the new year and what do you have to show for it? If you so eagerly did a vision board, (I updated mine at a party), where are you on that?

If you are not on track, don’t give up. You do have at least 310 odd days to get it together! First, let’s refocus on your goal. What do you want to accomplish?

Let’s say your goal is to have the, “Freedom to work on your own terms.” There are objectives, i.e. steps to get there. Your objectives are the bridges that you take to get to your goal.

How it’s done

There’s a strategy to reaching your goal with your objectives. Being strategic in your objectives helps you get to your goal the most direct way. Although, there will be curves and sharp turns (trials and errors) you will be on your path to your goal.

Objectives to your goal could be:

  1. Within 10 days I will decide on the direction I want to take to work on my own terms.
  2. I will take a couple of self inventories. No more than 2. Don’t get stuck on this step.
  3. Meditate. I will listen to my inner voice. It really knows what’s best for you and will help you get to your goal quicker.
  4. Take orders from my inner self. Not only listen, but do.
  5. Okay, you figured out you need more training. Research for ONLY 2 days possible training options. Put on a spreadsheet or even better a sheet of paper the pros and cons of your training research.
  6. Pick one, register and get started!

I know, it looks simple and it really is simple. Many people get stuck on a lot of research. Your research is a way to procrastinate if you go past a couple of days. Procrastination is the number one way to guarantee you will not reach your goal.

Once you have received the training you need, develop another set of objectives, such as getting clients, setting up marketing avenues, etc. You will need to set strategic objectives for each of these steps which leads to your overarching goal.

Another way to look at this

This is just like leaving your home and going to a new destination. You will cross over bridges, take highways, streets and avenues until you finally reach where you want to be. During this trip, you most likely will have to slow down to go around a curve, stop at an intersection, wait for a stop light and yield to others. However, you are still on your way to your final goal, your destination.

When you are traveling to a new destination, you don’t give up when you have to stop at a red light. You sit there and wait until it turns green and continue on.

When you are traveling to reach your goal, you will have a few red lights. You wait until you get a green light to continue on. The key here is to not stall out at a red light because you got a red light. Recognize it and continue on when it’s green.

Figure out where you want to be. Decide on the strategic objectives and accomplish the steps one by one until you get there.
