Want Success? Shift Your Thinking
I ran across this article by Benjamin P. Hardy, “2 Mental Shifts Highly Successful People Make”. I read it and was intrigued at how this is a no brainer. Successful people have to have the mindset that they are going to be successful, and they are not taking ‘no’ for an answer.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on success, and I know from what I’ve read, it all takes place in your mind. Simple right? But if it was so simple, why are so many people not where they want to be?
This is hard though. It’s hard to unlearn stuff that was programed in you since childhood. And the sad thing is, the people, parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, did not know they were doing this to you. Because it was done to them, they just passed the torch down to you.
When you own up to your decision, you can no longer say you are a victim of your circumstances.
I even had a relative even tell me that they didn’t believe in the law of attraction. They could not see how it was connected Biblically. They were many years older than me, I loved them dearly, but I knew I had to not absorb that from them.
Later, as I thought about it, IF you so much want to connect this to the teachings of the Bible, then you can. It’s all right there in plain sight, if you want to see it that way.
However, regardless of how you see it, or want to think about it, it all boils down to the power of choice. You have the choice of what you allow in. This is your individual responsibility.
It is your responsibility to decide whether you want to be happy or continue to be miserable. No one can make this decision for you but you.
When you own up to your decision, you can no longer say you are a victim of your circumstances. Because, circumstances are created in your yesterdays. You control who, where and how you spend your time, so your tomorrows are what you want.
All circumstances of success, health and happiness are consequences of events that have already occurred. You control all of these circumstances/causes, not the effects of what has happened simply by how you behave.
If you are living in a negative situation. Fix it.
Starting your day on a positive note, boosts your ability to have a great rest of the day. It enhances your confidence. And as a result, you will have great results. It’s just like you study for several days for an exam, and you do very well. All of the studying are the circumstances you are creating to have a great result.
Not that I’m the type to get into trouble…
Now, I know sometimes this is not the case, but, for the most part, you will usually do well. If you fail, then figure out what went wrong and fix it.
Your emotional state is all on you. No one, your friends, spouse, family can make you happy. It is your choice to be happy. This is YOUR job to create this happiness.
Some people believe they will be happy if they change to another career, or industry or location. This might be true, but it is your effort to want happiness.
When you make the decision that you are going to be happy regardless, you have focused on a goal. When you focus on a particular goal, it is as if the universe opens up for you and things happen.
In order for this to happen, you must always be in a state of constant learning. Whether it is learning more about your current industry, an industry you want to be in or self-help or a hobby, always be in learning mode.
As a man thinketh…
When you are not learning something, your mind is idle. Remember the quote, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop?” There are many times throughout your day that are idle playgrounds for harm.
According to Napoleon Hill in “Outwitting The Devil”, this is auto-intoxication. You do not want to succumb to this. You should always keep your mind on a goal. Our brains are always receiving, organizing, specializing and expressing the powers of our thoughts.
When used in the right way, we have creative thoughts, we create awesome and magnificent things. When used in the wrong way, it can destroy families, careers, need I go on?
Do not allow your brain to have idle time. Fill it with something. As I mentioned in my article of, “Little Moments Of Self-Improvement,” I discussed how I use little pockets of time in my day to always be learning something.
When driving between one destination to another, I’m always listening to a podcast on something. I listen to audio books to learn new skills. I do not allow my mind to just idly sit doing nothing.
Not that I’m the type to get into trouble, but according to Napoleon Hill, “Time is the enemy of immorality and injustice. It is the friend to justice and morality.”
I intend to not be a part of hypnotic rhythm of an idle mind. Catherine Ponder in, “The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity” states that your mind is your connecting link to your attitudes, mental concepts, beliefs and thoughts.
Regardless of how much effort you put into something, if your mindset isn’t right, your efforts will be fruitless. You have to work at the right mindset in order for your efforts to be successful.
As a man thinketh within himself, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7). Your mindset determines your attitude toward a successful life. The sooner you connect the two, the sooner you will be on your way to true success.
This is something that has to be done consciously. Remember, if you don’t control your thoughts and mindset, it will wander off onto things that are not progressing you into the right direction you want to be.
According to Napoleon Hill in, “Think and Grow Rich”, you have to deliberately focus on auto suggestions. Auto suggestions helps you stay focused on your goals and success.
It is evident to me, to be successful, one must be focused, have control of their thoughts and stay on point for their goals. If this is not what you are doing, there are several books that I’ve mentioned that can help you. Some on audio books and others you will have to take the time to read.
