What are you not saying that needs to be said? — morning meditation
What is a morning meditation? To help me build a habit of daily writing, I’m publishing a few thoughts here every morning about ideas that interest and inspire me, mostly drawn from ordinary life. I hope you enjoy them.
Last year, I went through a group coaching circle with a company called Reboot, and they introduced me to a question that has since helped me on multiple occasions: What are you not saying that needs to be said?
To your colleagues? To your loved ones? To yourself? Most of all, to yourself.
Do not underestimate the power of this question. Every time I use it, it transforms me. It helps me see things I have been deliberately overlooking. It forces me to open doors that I have intentionally kept shut rather than face whatever fears reside within. It demands that I be honest with others and myself in ways that feel naked and painful and vulnerable.
It’s always hard. It always hurts. And it always leads me somewhere worthwhile.
