Pyorrhea is a kind of gum disease caused by bacteria triggering ligaments and bones that support the teeth to become inflamed and infected. It affects the membrane that surrounds the roots of the teeth and makes them weak.

The toxins which are released by the bacteria can cause loosening of teeth and discharge the pus. It generally occurs when the person is poor towards his oral hygiene or due to the incorrect way of brushing. Consumption of excess sugar and an unhealthy diet also increase the number of germs in your mouth and can lead to developing pyorrhea.

The condition starts with some signs and symptoms which should be an alert message for the person:

  • The most common symptom is the inflammation of the gums. It might be for some other reason but it can lead to pyorrhea
  • Loosening of teeth without any particular injury or incident
  • Gum pockets which will allow the food to stay after eating
  • Generally, these pockets will discharge gum with severe pain
  • Mouth ulcers due to the consumption of unhealthy food
  • Bone erosion
  • Inflated gums

Pyorrhea is preventable but if the condition is not cured, it can even lead to heart attacks, stroke, and other serious health problems. There are some simple home remedies which can help you control the condition and they are

Salt :

The basic and the most affordable ingredient used to provide zing to your favorite recipes. It possesses antiseptic and antibacterial properties that fight the pyorrhea from the first direct use. Add 2 tablespoons of salt in a glass full of lukewarm water. Stir it till the time salt is totally mixed in the solution. Once it is mixed, drink the water and keep it in your mouth for at least a minute. Repeat the procedure 3 to 4 times in a day and it will provide relief from the pain and inflammation.

Lemon juice:

With the regular bleeding and pus, the person will not be able to consume or drink anything. To stop the blood instantly, take out fresh lemon juice and collect it in a jar. Remember not to mix anything in the juice. Put few drops of juice onto your fingers and start massaging your gums with it. As it is acidic in nature, it will give the burning sensation and at times it is difficult to do it for the first time but you can feel that the bleeding has stopped instantly. It thoroughly improves the condition of your teeth and gums.

Guava :

Been used for different advantages and properties, Guava is an excellent source of vitamin C that can improve the overall quality of your teeth. Eat a raw guava with some salt anytime you want to in a day which is best for people who are suffering from pyorrhea. It doesn’t allow bacteria to develop the condition and improves the overall quality of your gums and teeth.

Oil Pulling :

Coconut and its products have been in use for centuries as it comes with no side-effects and benefits the users. Oil pulling is a process in which you put unrefined coconut oil in your mouth for 5 to 10 minutes which is used to prevent pyorrhea and improves the quality of the gums with good oral health. Put one tablespoon of oil in your mouth and wash it away with warm water after 10 minutes. Do it daily before you brush your teeth and please take care not to swallow or gargle the oil.

Turmeric :

This ingredient has a special place in Ayurveda as it has shown some unbelievable healing powers. Turmeric contains curcumin which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects required during pyorrhea. It kills all the bacteria and boosts the oral health giving instant relief from the pain and inflammation. You can use it directly as you can brush with it for at least twice a day. You can replace your regular toothpaste with it, as you need to prepare a paste of turmeric using vitamin E oil. Mix them well and apply it on your gums before you go to sleep. After waking up in the morning wash your mouth with warm water.

Carrot and Spinach :

Both the ingredients have been recommended by many doctors for maintaining the quality of your oral hygiene. You can add them to your regular diet by preparing a soup out of them. You can also make juice of both the ingredients by grinding them into a juicer and have the juice on daily basis for better results.

Mustard Oil :

It has been observed that mustard oil is also effective in treating pyorrhea as you need to apply it on your gums after brushing every morning. You can mix the oil with some salt as it will provide instant relief from the pain and inflammation.
