The human body has some complex architecture consisting of different bones and muscles. Within these muscles, Sinuses are a connected system of hollow cavities in the skull. Sinusitis or sinus is a condition in which inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining occurs due to the blockage of the passage either by fluid or internal parts that allow germs to grow causing infection. The infection leads to many symptoms, which differ from one person to another and the most common symptoms are:

  • People might feel pain in the back of the eyes, face, forehead, and nose
  • Headaches in different parts which vary in the intensity
  • Congestion in the nose, itching, loss of smell, and runny nose
  • Fever and fatigue
  • Finding difficulty while sleeping and snoring through whole night
  • Infection in the throat with irritation
  • Problem while breathing
  • Swelling on the face and tenderness
  • Nausea

These are some of the symptoms which generally occur while the person is suffering from a sinus infection and should be taken care of. There are so many antibiotics available in the market that assure fighting off the infection and before turning to medical help, there are some home remedies to help you ease achiness and congestion.

Keep your body hydrated

Congestion due to mucus can cause a lot of problems during breathing and also while sleeping. The best way to beat the symptoms is keeping you hydrated all day long and the water should be free from any sugar preservatives. It will thin out mucus and will help in draining it out. Avoid the consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and stay away from the smoke.

Steam

Steaming can be efficient not only for a sinus infection but it comes with its own different advantages. Boil some water in the beaker and add few drops of peppermint oil in it. Once there will be steam coming out of the bowl, put your head down over the water and try to inhale as much steam as possible. Peppermint and boiling water will help in breaking down the thick mucus and will provide ease in breathing.

Chicken soup

These have been many studies which proved that chicken soup can actually help in cutting down the congestion which is caused by mucus and it tastes great. It reduces the inflammation caused by the sinus infection as it is combined with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. There are different recipes of chicken soup available on the internet which will reactivate you taste buds and you can actually smell the essence of the great recipe.

Increase the intake of the spices

Hot spices can cause some damage to your digestion system if you are consuming it on daily basis but it can help clearing sinus infection. Spicy foods like mustard, hot peppers, and curry open the nasal passages by which you can breathe normally and with regular consumption, all the symptoms will come back to normal.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains an ingredient known as curcumin which is rich in natural anti-inflammatory properties which can help fight against the infection of the sinus. You can add it while consuming a hot tea with a spicy ginger root which will clear the mucus, unblock the nasal passages, and will help while breathing. Regular consumption is required until the time there are less or no symptoms of the infection.

Warm and cold compresses

Covering the affected parts from warm and cold compression for some time can actually help in fighting the symptoms of the infection. There are studies which backed up the process. The person should lay down on the bed covering his nose, cheeks, and forehead with warm compress drape for at least 30 seconds and replace it with a cold drape for another 30 seconds. This will clear out the congestion. It will clear the nasal passages which allow you to breathe with ease. You can repeat the same process for at least 2 to 6 times in a day.

Nasal irrigation

It is the most effective way to get instant relief from nasal congestion and irritation. It is a process by which saline solution is transferred to the nasal passages means getting mucus flushed out from the body. The process was studied and considered to be the first line of defense against sinus infection.

Apple cider vinegar

It is the main ingredient in most of the recipes and can be used in order to fight the sinus infection as it comes with different health benefits. You can drink it while adding it to a hot cup of water and usually by mixing it up in a hot cup of tea. It will clear out the mucus that caused congestion and clear the nasal passages for efficient breathing. You can also add lemon and honey to mix up the taste which will soothe your taste buds.
