Why I’m Long on Ethereum

Over the past few days I’ve been watching tweets and articles being posted about edcon, the Ethereum conference happening in Toronto. Ever since attending EthDenver, I’ve been impressed by the strength of the Ethereum community. Ethereum isn’t a product built by a company, it’s an ecosystem of designers, operators, developers, traders, and hobbyists who are all stakeholders that want to see the protocol succeed.

It’s a community with a powerful culture that’s attracting smart, talented people who normally exist on the fringes of our society. As an ecosystem, we’re creating a culture where it’s ok to be a little weird in a way that is more inclusive than most of tech. This has been embodied in my interactions with people in the community, and has also been driven by some of the biggest projects in the space. Just check out this video of the OMG team dancing on stage:

You wouldn’t see this at a bitcoin conference

Big things often start with small, cult-like followings. In the case of Ethereum the ecosystem has become a large, cult-like following, making me even more excited for the future. To be fair, it’s a long road ahead. Barriers like scaling and regulation are significant threats to the ecosystem, but I believe in the power of this community to find ways for the protocol to thrive.
