Week 3: Carmel 6000 BootCamp
We broke routine in many ways this week. For one, we were introduced to new coding syntax by new teachers in unfamiliar methods of learning. It took a while to grasp the concepts we were learning but gradually we are getting the hang of it. Additionally, we were given free time outside of the campus for the first time in 3 weeks. It was extremely refreshing to wander Jerusalem, seeing old friends and busy places that we didn’t get a chance to explore under the intensiveness of our program.

On Monday night, Rabbanit Michal Tikochinsky spoke with us about Sefer Yonah and the critical role it plays in Rosh Hashanah and the beginning of the new year.
The messages she presented in the Shiur, amongst them the concepts of Tefilla and Tzedek, left us off with stimulated discussion and introspection.
To break up the learning and the end-of-the-week project building, we met with a representative from sherut leumi to prepare us for the upcoming move to our new dorms this Sunday. We then got our project assignment-creating a shopping site- and we delved right in. We spent Wednesday evening furiously planning out and designing our sites, and began programming them until the early hours of the morning.
On Thursday, after an engaging speech about engineering on campus and start-ups by Prof. Yair Weiss, we continued to program our websites until evening when we presented them to our mentors and class.

I really appreciate the knowledge I gained and the relationships I further-developed throughout, or because of, the intensity and the many programs we had this past week. I hope the progress we made this week (as a team and as individuals) will continue to develop and expand throughout our service, cultivating an environment of learning, growing and contributing to society.
