Such a small amount of time yet can perhaps mean so much

What do three hours mean to you?

Perhaps it represents half a day of work — the block between arriving and lunch or between lunch and leaving.

Perhaps it’s the only time you get to spend that day between coming home from work and your children going to bed

Perhaps it’s the length of that film usually never seem to get a chance to watch

For our members?

Perhaps it’s the only time that week not in school they can be away from their parents

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they get to have a natter with friends without restrictions

Perhaps it’s the only social time that week that they get out of the house

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they can be themselves with no expectations or pressures

For our parents?

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they can flop on the sofa with a quiet cup of tea and recharge

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they can get the housework done or get the weekly shopping in

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they can spend some undivided time with their partners

Perhaps it’s the only time that week that they can spend some one on one time with their other children

For our volunteers?

Perhaps it’s the only time that week they can escape the expectations of school, family and society

Perhaps it’s the extracurricular activity that gets their CV noticed and the chance of a better life can begin

Perhaps it’s the only time that week they can really talk about their feelings

Perhaps it’s the salt that gives life a little more flavour

But it’s only three hours, yet look at the beauty it can achieve, the impact that it could have, and the loss if it wasn’t there.

Carrickfergus Junior Gateway may only run for two sessions of three hours each a week but the benefits are vast. We’ve seen confidences grow, skills develop, and personalities transform

Just three little hours or so much more?
