1) The games guests want to bring to Web3 world

Age of Dino: Minecraft. Its open-scene, sandbox vibe is a perfect match for the decentralized, pull-no-punches ethos of Web3. The buzzing modding community in Minecraft might start evolving into a more Web3-style setup, where code jockeys worldwide can pool their efforts into a decentralized code-mix, earning their keep via smart contracts.

ArchLoot: World of Warcraft. It has one of the most dedicated communities, which is very important in Web3 space. Its ecosystem is massive, we find early roots of guilds, gold farmers, addon/macros inside game, which give it huge potentials. Personally, I would also like to have my gears to be my NFT badges since I used to grind hard.

Big Time: Eve online is unmatched in terms of scale and complexity, it has players trading, mining, battling. The economy mirrors the complexity of real-world economies. Unlike many MMMOs where economies are heavily influenced by developer set prices, market prices are almost entirely determined by player supply and demand. Eve has specialization, real world currency value with ISK. The combination of realism, scale, and player agency makes eve on lines economy a perfect candidate for Web3.

Matr1x: CS: GO. It is competitive enough and also attracting a huge numbers of users of games and especially, they have a complete set ecosystem of skin trading which is extremely similar to that of NFT trading in our industry, so the migration barrier, the switch cost would be lower than other game categories.

2) Why guests choose the current categories of games

ArchLoot: We felt that RPG games are one of the most engaging genres in terms of player stickiness. It also suits blockchain technology, especially NFTs very well. There are a variety of assets in RPG games, gears, pets, skins, etc., which would be very cool if they are actually owned by players and tradable. In ArchLoot, we develop our own solution to solve this in the name of EIP-4985 or BEP-129, allowing interactions to be logged onto the NFT itself. Thus, when players decide to trade the gear which they have been leveling up with and spending resources reforging, all the work can be found in the NFT itself.

Big Time: MMOS and RPGs are the best candidates for web3 because of the amount of agency they give the player and the extensive crafting systems. Web3 brings scarcity, and transparency to build a vibrant in game economy where players can benefit.

Matr1x: Matr1x attaches great importance to the livestreaming and short video contents generation for the gaming promotion across the world. So, we would like to deliver more Esports games from the beginning in order to attract more users. We also put our worldview stories at a pole position in order to promote the industry value and culture.

Age of Dino: We have selected strategy games as the genre not only because of the rich experiences that our teammates have, but also strategy games naturally have a more complex and solid in-game eco-system than the other games do. In strategy games, you get a mixed bag of cool features that mirror real-life situations. Plus, you can team up for player versus environment or player versus player games. This makes the game experience pretty varied.

3) Axie opened up a new paradigm for the Gamefi industry : “Play to Earn”. How do you think of this Mode?

Big Time: Axie was a business opportunity. Players hired other players to play the game to collect in game currency to breed Axies to sell these Axies to more players who wanted to do the same. Consumption was overwhelming driven for financial reasons but not for the experience or collectability. Modern economy’s function where business fulfill the desires of their customers.

Matr1x: Play to earn is a kind of subsidy provided to users, kind of tactics widely adopted in the web2 industry. It is still quite useful for cold start, however too much reliance on P2E proves to lead to death spiral and failure. So, we have to rely more on game contents themselves, while P2E could be useful tactics rather than core strategy.

Age of Dino: The economy of these play-to-earn games is super critical. It’s like, we need to keep this balance between how much of the game tokens are available and how much players want them. It keeps their value steady. But In layman’s terms, just playing for earnings won’t cut it in the Web3 world anymore. It’s all about creating a blockchain game that brings developers, players, and real stakeholders together in the Web3 spirit. Players get ownership in the form of tokens or in-game rewards for their participation. We have to back sustainable games that bring the fun and create memorable experiences. Such games can bring a ton of value to the broader digital gaming community.

ArchLoot: According to us, Play-to-earn is never a new thing in the gaming space. In WoW, there are gold farmers whose jobs are to make a living from the game. Some would just farm gold, other offering boosting services as well as raiding services. In another successful title named Fantasy Westward Journey by NetEase, 70–80% of the gears, resources, and in game were produced with the help of script of multi accounting. Play-to-earn will never die, it is just a way to attract players. It requires complexity and ironically centralized governance to be sustainable. We are still going to find it in other Web3 games, but it should not be the only reason why people play games in the first place.
