Back in 2010, the number of cars in the world exceeded 1 billion. Every seventh person on the planet had a car. Not surprisingly, many projects in the field of blockchain are aimed at drivers. Read our articles about the main projects.

Autonomous payments

The technology of Car eWallet, which is currently being developed by ZF, IBM and UBS, will automate all car related payment operations, such as paying for gasoline, traveling on toll roads, servicing and insurance. The implementation of payment transactions does not require the participation of the car owner or any other person. This technology is especially relevant in the development of the Car-Sharing system, since the data accounting of payments of certain services will be systematized and transparent. The creators of the project consider the technology to be very relevant, as the topic of autonomous driving is being actively lobbied by automotive manufacturers. Accordingly, all payments in such a car should be carried out autonomously. Also, the technology will allow to carry out other autonomous functions, for example, open the trunk or door of the car.

The blockchain project FAPSY works in a similar fashion, but offers only a single service — autonomous payment for fueling the car. In the future, the creators of the project are going to expand the line of functions for offline payment, including, for example, payment for a car wash or dinner in a restaurant.

Single Data Register

Blockchain is already being implemented at the state level at one place or another. For example, in the field of cadastral register or in the medical field. The idea is that all information about on or another industry and its participants is stored in a single open and safe system, which means it reduces the risks of fraud and optimizes the work of the industry, saving it from unnecessary workflow. The HashCoins team offered a similar project called “Autoblockchain” for the car market. The system will allow you to keep the history of the car from the moment it was created, tracking in it such things as accidents, the number of car owners, mileage and much more. Thus, the system minimizes the opportunities for any fraud in this market, including carjacking, since all information about it will be stored in an open database, and to sell the car as a whole or for parts will be problematic. So far, the project is negotiating with several countries on its implementation.

Similar developments are being made by other companies. For example, Renault presented a prototype of a maintenance magazine for cars in the summer. The idea is that all the information about car maintenance will be stored not in any given place like service workshops or insurance companies, but in a single open base on the blockchain, which means it will become more transparent.

And Toyota announced its plans to introduce in the future blockchain-technology to collect data on unmanned vehicles. According to the company, this is the fastest way to collect important statistical information for security. The motivation to provide data can be a crypto currency incentive, which will be payed for by selling statistical information. Also, Toyota plans to implement a project that will allow car owners to save on insurance rates.

Saving on the principle of Uber

Uber-projects have already proved their effectiveness: their number is growing every year. The basic principle: the connection between the customer and the nearest performer directly allows you to optimize the process for both. And the transfer of the payment system to the blockchain system and smart contracts makes it completely transparent and secure. But if the Uber project itself is interesting, more for pedestrians, rather than for car owners, the application CarTaxi, working on the principle of Uber, just might be as useful to any driver. The application is a unified system in the field of car towing. If the driver needs the services of a tow truck, the application will find the nearest, and therefore, the best-performing contractor, and the order will be paid using a smart contract. By the way, unlike all other blockchain-projects for drivers mentioned above, this application is already operational. Today it operates in 38 cities of Russia. Now the project is doing its ICO, and the attracted investments will be used for development. So, next year the project is going to expand to the markets of the USA and China, and further — and to the markets of other countries.
