Cartesi Joins Chinaccelerator Batch 14
The Cartesi team is thrilled to announce that it has been selected as one of the companies that will take part in the 14th batch of the Chinaccelerator program, happening in Shanghai this upcoming September.

Chinaccelerator is one of the leading startup accelerator programs in Asia, and one of the six accelerators under SOSV. The accelerator is a 90 day mentorship-driven program, where Cartesi will sit together with 10 other leading startups from around the world.
Before getting into the details of how Chinaccelerator can help Cartesi it is important to provide a bit of background information.
First of all,
What is an accelerator?
A start-up accelerator is a program that gathers companies with a structured team into cohorts for a fixed amount of time in a shared space. Accelerators provide investments to the startups that join them and try to boost their growth thanks to the network of mentors and corporates that surround them. Reciprocal support from other start-ups in the cohort also plays an important role.
Accelerators help the companies in different aspects of the life of a startup, such as hiring, legal, partnerships, user acquisitions, marketing and branding. Since accelerators have skin in the game (equities/tokens of the companies), they are incentivized to help the companies throughout their entire existence!
What is SOSV ?
SOSV is a cross stage venture capital fund with $400M US assets under management, based out of San Francisco.
SOSV’s name has origins from the founder, Sean O’Sullivan, mastermind behind MapInfo; a company that went IPO on NYSE and pioneered the technology behind street mapping on digital devices. Sean is also the person who co-coined the term “cloud computing.”
SOSV is the 4th most active early stage investor in the world according to Techcrunch. Under the funds lie some of the most important accelerators in the world such as Indiebio, the best accelerator for Biotechnology in the planet, HAX, the first and most succesful hardware accelerator, and Chinaccelerator, the first accelerator in Asia, the first to have a unicorn go through the program, and one of the most famous in China!
Now the most important part!
How can Chinaccelerator help Cartesi?
Chinaccelerator’s main expertise is their ability to acquire users without spending a cent, Free User Acquisition.
Chinaccelerator as a company itself is a living example of this ability, the accelerator in fact was born back in 2014, and in just 4 years gained a very strong community. One example of this, is their event called 8x8 (watch out for the streaming link!) that last year alone counted for more than 200 hundred people at the venue and an astonishing 1 million people watching it via live stream.
We believe that the ability to acquire loyal users in a short period of time will be the key for the success of Cartesi, especially for the Cartesi Mine.
Chinaccelerator (CA) is getting more and more recognized among Fortune 500 companies thanks to its Corporate Innovation Program. The CA team was able to identify the biggest pain points of big firms when considering technology or more broadly innovation, and create a series of solutions to alleviate their pains. Their solution includes scouting and identifying startups from their portfolio that are able to generate a solution/product capable of solving specific problems of various corporate enterprises.
The Corporate Innovation program of Chinaccelerator represents a perfect launchpad for Cartesi to create connections with C-level decision makers in Fortune 500 companies and create the right ground for future cooperation.
Last but not least, lets look at the CA team. The Chinaccelerator management team includes individuals with extensive experience in the start-up world.
William Bao Bean, General Partner of SOSV and Managing Director at CA has been doing tech investment for more than 22 years. William was one of the first investment bank analysts to do research on Chinese internet companies before the Chinese internet boom. It’s hard to find somebody who doesn’t know William in the Asian tech space! William is also one of the advisors of Cartesi.
Oscar Ramos, Program Director, has a strong engineering background and used to be the founder of various VC backed startups before getting into the world of startup investment. Oscar has a true passion for startups and he is a true expert of lean startup methodologies.
It is important not to forget the network of more than 300 mentors that CA has, both C-levels in big corporates as well as serial enterpreneurs.
When running a company like Cartesi, it is important to have capable people around, making suggestions and helping to avoid mistakes that they have already done!
The Chinaccelerator program will start on September 3rd so stay tuned for more updates from the Cartesi team soon!
