March 31st 2023 welcoming a new wave of #BUIDLers into the Cartesi community.

We had a blast wrapping up ETH Denver at the beginning of March and were super impressed to see all the innovative new projects built with Cartesi tech from our first hackathon session of the year! Want to learn more about the projects built with Cartesi Rollups at ETH Denver 2023? We covered all that and more in our recap:

Looking for an opportunity to refresh your understanding of Cartesi Rollups and Linux developer tooling supported by Cartesi’s VM? Core contributor Max broke it down for the builders of ETHDenver, but don’t feel left behind! Watch the replay:

The power of our community also came out in full force, for everyone who voted, thank you for helping Cartesi get shortlisted for Alchemy’s Web3 Community Award! Great to be highlighted alongside powerful communities such as Ethereum, Optimism and Solana — here’s to growing and welcoming more builders to our ecosystem!

Heading over to Ethereum Rio, it was great to share both stage and insights with Fuel, Algorand and Hashdex, discussing infrastructure as the foundation for the technological evolution of blockchains:

And before the month is officially over, we’re also teaming up with Web3Ladies — the largest female-focused Web3 Community in Africa, for a workshop presenting a comprehensive guide to Cartesi and its development tools — perfect onboarding even more people to Web3!

Of course, that’s not all that happened in March. Keep reading…

Development Updates

The #BUIDling never stops! Asides from the developers starting to explore Cartesi tech at hackathons, Cartesi core developers are also hard at work. If the latest development recap slipped under your radar, make sure to catch up here:

It’s hackathon season!

When one hackathon ends, another begins. Well, not one, but three! March saw the launch of our very first online hackathon, where we’re inviting developers from all over the world to develop a proof of concept decentralized application using Cartesi Rollups. We’re off to a solid start with 170 hackers registered and counting!

While we kicked things off with our Opening Ceremony on March 25th, don’t worry if you missed it. You can join our hackathon, catch up on sessions via the replays and submit your project at any time before the project submission deadline (April 25th 2023). Bring your friends and sign up below:

Exciting things are happening in the LATAM Web3 space and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it! Think and Dev are back with round 2 of their #KingofDevs hackathon. Alongside sponsorship, core contributors Carlo and Arthur will be on hand providing mentorship to budding builders.

Additionally, we’re looking forward to working closely with students from Inteli, giving them a handcrafted hackathon challenge designed to bring them closer to the Cartesi tech stack and onboard a new generation of developers to Web3. Awesome to see them in their Cartesi swag:

Core contributor Gabriel introducing Cartesi tech to students at the National Institute of Technology, Warangal

And that’s not all in Cartesi’s university circuit. We joined Envelope Technology’s 100 Universities Roadshow in India, hosting a workshop into Cartesi Rollups at NITW (National Institute of Technology, Warangal). There was a spectacular turnout, resulting in over 45 sign ups to our online hackathon from students all geared up to build with Cartesi tech!

About Cartesi

Cartesi is an application-specific rollup execution layer with a Linux runtime. Cartesi Rollups can be deployed as a layer 2 (on top of Ethereum), as a layer 3 (on top of Optimism, Arbitrum, zkEVM chains, etc.), or as sovereign rollups. It opens up the design space for more expressive and computationally intensive blockchain applications.

  • DApps are deployed on their own customizable application-specific rollup chains;
  • DApps don’t compete with each other in Cartesi’s ecosystem for scarce blockspace;
  • Cartesi provides Ethereum or L2’s with orders of magnitude more computational capacity;
  • Developers can code decentralized logic with their favorite libraries, compilers and other time-tested open source components;
  • DApps preserve the strong security guarantees and censorship resistance of the underlying blockchain;
