Why Cartesi is redesigning development updates
In 2018, Cartesi, The Blockchain OS, was released. Since then, the layer-2 approach has addressed issues in two areas: To begin, we must address the primary difficulties that layer-1 blockchain networks face: scalability. Second, by integrating Linux as an operating system to the blockchain, we are opening up blockchain to mainstream developers.
As a result, Cartesi is essentially The Blockchain OS. It enables mainstream developers to connect mainstream stacks, databases, libraries, and services to the blockchain. Things that do not operate in isolation, but only with an operating system. Finally, after patiently waiting their time and keeping a close eye on the blockchain growth from afar, mainstream developers can now start their first decentralized project.
Status of The Blockchain OS now
The alpha release of Cartesi Rollups has been available for developers since December 2021, and there are currently over ten integrators contributing to it. They are developing their first decentralized apps on the blockchain OS, utilizing their preferred stacks, services, and standards such as Python, C++, SQL, REST, and so on. We will keep the community updated on the steps these integrators take and any obstacles they may face, and we will document their learning path to teach other developers how to utilize The Blockchain OS.
What’s Next
Rollups on Mainnet is the biggest milestone. Contributors and integrators from all over the globe are currently developing applications with The Blockchain OS. These mainstream developers are building their first decentralized applications while keeping their favorite syntax, tools, tips, and tricks.
Aside from the work on Cartesi Rollups, Cartesi’s core technology keeps advancing every day in each of the other main verticals: Cartesi Machine, Explorer, and Noether.
Cartesi’s New Research & Development Phase
Blockchain technology is evolving at a rapid pace. And so is the Cartesi team. We’re expanding on exciting plans that involve non-stop, pioneering academic research, as well as continuous efforts to solve software engineering challenges.
The evolution of our R&D implies better software development processes, distilling and adapting industry practices to our context. With the expansion of our project and new processes in place, Cartesi requires new ways to properly set expectations and maintain technical transparency for our R&D activities.

Soon, we will release an updated roadmap and communication plan. We’re aiming to make it appealing to both blockchain and mainstream developers, CTSI enthusiasts, as well as possible end-users of The Blockchain OS’s decentralized apps.
