Cartisan recently received a service request from a customer who owns a classic Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W203) manufactured in the year 2001. The 16-year-old car was in great shape except that it needed a new set of brake pads and rotors, both front and rear.

A quote was provided for Textar brake pads and Textar brake rotors for the front and rear of the W203. The customer accepted and the Cartisan Service Team arrived at the customer’s location to carry out the service.

The bonnet was popped open and the brake reservoir cap was opened. Fender covers were placed on either side of the bonnet and the service was underway.

The car was raised up with the help of a hydraulic jack and was propped on stands.

The front wheel was removed followed by the brake caliper. Before removing the brake caliper, the brake wear sensor is unplugged from the brake pad and disconnected from the car’s wiring.

The brake wear sensor tells the driver that the brake pads are worn completely and need to be replaced.

After the brake pads are removed from the brake caliper, the brake rotors are unscrewed and unmounted from the wheel hub.

A new Textar brake rotor is then mounted onto the wheel hub, followed by the brake caliper, brake pads and finally, the brake wear sensor is plugged into the brake pad and connected to the car’s wiring. Before mounting the brake calipers onto the rotors, the brake piston is decompressed with the help of a c-clamp to accommodate the new thicker Textar brake pads.

Unlike Mercedes’ of today that have brake pad wear sensors connected to either one of the two sets of front brake pads, the W203 has brake wear sensors connected to both sets of front brake pads.

Next, the rear wheels are removed, the rear brake pads are removed followed by the brake calipers and finally, the rear brake rotors. Brand new Textar brake rotors are mounted to the rear wheel hubs. New Textar brake pads are then slotted into the rear brake calipers, which in turn are mounted on the brake rotors.

The W203 has no brake wear sensors connected to either set of rear brake pads.

The car is then finally lowered to the ground, the inspection checklist is finalized and is then taken for a test drive to confirm that the work was completed successfully.
