Cartisan recently carried out a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class W204 Wheel Bearing Replacement. The car had clocked around 57,320 kms on the odometer.

The symptoms…

If the wheel bearings wear out ever so slightly, the following symptoms could arise -

  • Car pulls towards the left or the right despite keeping the steering dead straight
  • The steering wheel vibrates after going above a certain speed
  • The steering wheel turns to either side under braking
  • Squeaking sounds from the wheel
  • Wobbling of the wheel

It bodes well to drive cautiously on poor roads and while driving over speed breakers. Wheel bearings tend to get worn or damaged when driving carelessly.

This particular W204 in exhibited most, if not all of these symptoms.

Cartisan recommended the customer to replace both the front wheel bearings.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class W204 Wheel Bearing Replacement Process

The Cartisan Technician team arrived at the customer’s location at the specified date and time, picked up the car and took it to the closest Cartisan Preferred Workshop.

First, the Cartisan Technician removed the front wheel. He then unmounted the brake calipers from the brake rotors. He then unscrews the small screw holding the rotor in place and unmounted the rotor as well.

The technician unmounts the wheel hub as well until the spindle is finally exposed.

The bearings are located inside the wheel hub. The bearing set comprises of the inner and outer bearings fitted with rollers, the water shield and the oil seal.

All of these are replaced with brand new wheel bearing set from Febi Bilstein. The technician applies grease to all the components before installing them into the hub.
