Let’s face it

Moving is not the sexiest way to spend a weekend or day off. It’s tiresome, hard on your back and feels never ending. It doesn’t have to be. Take the stress out of moving and cut your time in half with these simple, and easy ways to make the move. Then get back to the things that really matter.

Plan your Conquest!!!

Too many times people forgot that a great thought out plan produces better results than just “winging it” on moving day. If you want a couple less grey hairs than you already have, make sure you:

Determine a date and planned time to move.

  • It’s always great to know exactly when and where you will be taking your home items. Set a specific amount of time aside that you plan to use for moving.

Budget, Budget, Budget

  • Besides budgeting your time, there are two other variables you need to manage. One obviously is a financial budget. It is important to map out how much money you intend to spend on moving expenses. Not only that but knowing the size and amount of items you are moving will help determine how long it will take and if you will need some extra hands.

Who’s doing the heavy lifting?

Once you have set your determined date and have your budget in place, it’s time to pick out your movers. Be sure to do your research on possible moving companies as well as truck rentals in order to find the right deal for you. And because you already planned out your budget for the move, you know exactly how much you’re willing to pay. Whether that be Two Guys and Truck, UHaul Rentals, CARTT or even the neighborhood kid down the street trying to earn an extra ten bucks. In the end it comes down to how involved you want to be in the moving process.

Take it or Leave it!

I bet we have all seen at least one episode of Hoarders and it’s safe to say we have some items we would be better off without. This is a great opportunity to get rid of them and free up some space for items that really matter. Try your luck on ebay, craigslist, or any of the other sales sites to make a little money in the process. And if the products are still in prime condition donate them at your nearest Goodwill or Salvation Army. There may also be Furniture Banks near you that would be more than happy to take your unwanted but lightly used chairs, tables and couches. Mustard Seed located in Fort Wayne for example is a great option.

Be Resourceful

Do all you can to save dollar signs and seconds on the clock! Call a friend or relative to help out with the move, use old boxes from previous purchases to pack your things and use every ounce of space in your vehicles. The ride there may be a little cramped but you can save a lot on rentals. It’s all about working with what you got, and taking advantage of all the helpful resources.

Live a Little

Moving isn’t glamorous, but do what you can to make the most fun out of the experience. Maybe that means jamming out to your favorite tunes, planning a moving in party or maybe dressing up in an outrageous get up while you’re moving. Whatever makes you happy try to incorporate that in the move. Overall, take a deep breathe, smile and just know moving means you’re onto your next adventure! Make the most out of your move!

Happy Packing!
