#MeetTheTeam — Designer Jessica Lascar
We are pleased to introduce you to Jessica, one of our skilled designers, in this week’s #MeetTheTeam! Continue reading and find out how Jessica became a designer, the 3 things she would take with her to a desert island and her favorite car.
Where are you from?
I was born in the United States of America, but raised in Italy by my Italian parents. I obtained a degree in Japanese(!) and afterwards lived for 3 months in Japan, a year in the Netherlands, 6 months in Germany and for the last 5 years I have lived in London.
So, how did you become a designer?
After my adventure in Japan, which is one of the most amazing countries I have ever been to, I moved to the Netherlands. During my time in the Netherlands I started designing. My boyfriend, who is a developer, had an idea for an application, and I ended up designing the website and the app. From there I started freelancing, and then I landed my first design job in Germany. After that, I moved to London where I first worked in design at another startup before joining the amazing carwow team.
How did you end up working at carwow?
I was working at another start-up here in London that works with tangible products, which means the majority of the job consisted of graphic designing. I was very eager to move to a digital product, and luckily I stumbled upon the carwow website. I saw that one of the founders, Alexandra, is a designer, which made me very enthusiastic. I was looking for a new challenge and I felt that carwow might be it — I was right. :-)
I have been here for 1.5 years now, and I happen to have started on the same day as Pericles! :-)
The 3 things you would bring with you to a deserted island:
1. My iPhone — For sure!
2. Something cute to wear.
3. My plush Rilakkuma bear that I bought in Japan.
What are you most proud of?
1. All of the work hidden in the designs I’ve made that help people achieve something. There’s no better feeling than knowing that what you do can really make a difference for a lot of people.
2. The cute stickers I designed for the Meetings Rooms that put a smile on everyone’s face whenever they enter the room :-)
3. The fact that I finally took time to furnish and decorate my house after living there for a long time.
What are you currently working on?
The Product team is split into three smaller teams: User Conversion, User Acquisition and Product Supply. I work in the Product Supply team designing for the dealership facing website where carwow’s dealerships control the cars they have in stock and keep in touch with customers. We’ve spent a lot of time recently focusing on the customer facing website, so I strive to make the dealer-facing site better. I believe that if we can continue to work more on it and make it as simple and easy to use as possible, it can be a real asset to their businesses.
Which carwow value resonates most with your team?
Curious — we are creative, innovative, and very curious. We are always looking for new styles, inspiration, and always asking ourselves how we can make it better.
What is the best part of working at carwow?
People — Pericles said the same, but it’s true. People make the difference. Especially if you find people that inspire you, they can make you progress incredibly in your career. A lot of people here are very talented, and you get the opportunity to learn from them and the different departments they work in.
Last but not least, what is your favourite car?
The self driving Google Car — I have a driver’s license, but I can’t drive!! ;-)
