Forgiveness is definitely a process. You should not hold on to mistakes and destructive behaviors of the past for long. The longer you hold on to them, the greater the burden they become.

Below are 10 tips you can apply to manage mistakes from the past.

1. Accept that mistake is a part of life. You cannot walk through life tip toeing. You have the opportunity to apologize or correct the mistake you have made. Mistakes can come in any form, could be in business, choice of who to marry, education and so on. It forms a part of existence at the end.

2. Talk about your mistake. Let it out so you can receive help. Do not live up to the label life has given you, own it, open up to people and get liberated. Talk about it with the view point of lessons you have learnt and how you intend to do better moving forward.

3. Forgive yourself and forgive others. It is easier to forgive people than to forgive yourself. Be intentional about letting go, stop blaming yourself for your predicament. Whatever you do not release becomes your reality. Find peace in the possibility of what the future holds.

4. Learn to analyze your mistake. Know why you made the mistake in the first place and how you can avoid making the same mistake next time. Do not join the pull of people to say “I do not like to talk about it.” If you don’t analyze and talk about it, the chances of making the same mistake are very high.

5. Learn never to judge people. When you are being judgmental, you are stretching the muscle of your mind and when it comes to you, you will judge yourself terribly. You would be harsh on yourself. Know that acceptance is the key to growth. Build a benevolence mindset, you will apply it to yourself when the time comes.

6. Take conscious effort to remediate. It is very humbling and hard to do, but it is usually the way to go. It frees up your mind. It might cost you something, but do it.

7. Sympathize with people that cannot forgive you. When you make mistake and people are hurt, you need to know they have the right to not forgive and they reserve that right. You cannot hold it against them, because if you do, you will never get over your own mistakes.

8. You need to stop making decisions from a paradigm of mistake. Makes choices on the basis of your dreams. You have the right to make choices that will take you to a better future. Do not continue to perpetuate the mistakes of the past.

9. You need to reevaluate your personal values and decide to stick to them. Do not compromise on your value once you have identified them.

10. Remember that your future is determined by the choice of today not the mistake of yesterday. Do better.

You do not deserve to suffer from your past mistakes forever, you deserve to live to your fullest potential.
