1. Shop ’til you drop in Bangkok

Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok

Start by getting a glimpse of the city by riding in a Tuk-Tuk, this way you can get a feel for what activities you want to tackle while you’re there. Although there are beautiful sites to see and delicious restaurants to try, Bangkok is mostly favored for its shopping. For clothing, Bangkok is basically a one giant thrift store, offering cute clothes all for under $20. There are also tons of electronic stores where you can find quality products for reasonable prices. Aim to make a last stop in Bangkok before your trip ends since you’ll definitely want to take things back with you.

2. Sign up for a Thai cooking class

We’ve all tasted Thai food, we may have even attempted to make it, but mimicking the unique flavor of traditional Thai cooking is difficult to do. Taking a class and discovering the spice, flavor and mouth-watering goodness of true Thai food is an experience travelers can bring home with them and share with others. Don’t miss an opportunity to learn the tricks and secrets of this amazing cuisine!

3. Go rock climbing at Railay Beach

Krabi Rock Climbing offers a wide range of courses for any skill-level. Travelers have the option to do multi-day private tours, small group climbs or even deep water solo trips! For those who just want an introductory course, Krabi also offers half or full day lessons for beginners. Unless you’re an avid climber, travelers tend to say that even just half a day can be quite exhausting. Don’t worry though, nothing beats the amazing views once you reach the top!

4. Eat Pad Thai…anywhere

One of the most satisfying parts of traveling to Thailand is the ever-present access to authentic, delicious Pad Thai…and all Thai dishes, really. In Western countries, the perception of Thai food is slightly skewed, so having fresh traditional Thai cuisine right around every corner is something you should definitely take advantage of. Also, for the vegans and vegetarians, Thai cooking is very veg-friendly and most restaurants are happy to substitute any meat for tofu!

5. Volunteer at an Elephant Sanctuary

Patara Elephant Sanctuary, Chiang Mai

The experience of working with these majestic animals can be really eye-opening and a great way to connect with the land. That being said, before volunteering at a sanctuary, make sure to do your research. Oftentimes, tourists fall into traps of unintentionally supporting an abusive or exploitative organization. If you find a sanctuary, try to cross reference it with an animal rights groups or read reviews.

Here are a few in different locations across Thailand that are known to be humane: Phang Nga National Park, Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, and The Happy Elephant Home (iExplore).

Before you go, make sure to leave some space in your suitcase since you’ll definitely want to score some good deals while shopping in Bangkok! Follow CasaVersa for more travel insights and hacks!
