1. The hiking is insane.

One of the best ways to explore a new place is to go on a hike! The Carpathian Mountains are home to over 10 mountain ranges, each filled with tons of beautiful single and multi-day trips. Plus, you get to see amazing views of the country, meet locals and stay fit while travelling.

2. Everything is cheap.

There’s nothing like travelling to a cheaper country. The price of every meal, attraction and accommodation will never cease to surprise you. The average meal is about $4 dollars and the average night at a hotel is about $50.

3. The history is vast.

You might already know about the communist regime that was established in Romania by the USSR, but their history also includes Roman colonists, medieval wars with the Ottoman empire, World Wars and union movements. Romania is filled with numerous history museums, ancient forts and dreamy castles. Don’t forget to check out the coolest one of them all…Dracula’s Castle!

4. The locals are humble.

For most, life in Romania is a simple one. Old traditions and lifestyles are still very much alive, especially right outside of the main cities. Quaint rural houses with chickens and cows in the yard or a shepherd herding sheep are just some of the many humbling sites you’ll see when exploring the countryside. Romanians might not be the wealthiest, but they are some of the most grounded and joyful people you’ll ever meet!

5. It has a European aesthetic.

Although several gray square buildings still remain from the communist era, Romania has beautiful architecture that resembles the classic European style. In the city of Brasov, you can find cobblestone alleyways with cute cafes and boutiques that sit just below green mountains. Don’t forget to take a gondola up the mountain to see the amazing view of Brasov!
