Travelers are waking up and abandoning these lifeless forms of travel accommodation that have become nothing more than business transactions. What are they doing instead? Home swapping. Find out why home exchange is revolutionizing the way we travel.

1. Travel beyond your wildest dreams

Not too be cheesy, but, when you decide to swap your home, you end up saving tons of money. Families who home swap are able to visit off-the-beaten-path destinations or places that once seemed completely far-fetched. You can even use the $1000s of dollars you saved to extend your trips by days…even weeks.

2. Experience life as a local

When you swap homes with locals, you become more entrenched in the culture and lifestyle. You get to experience the customary way of eating, shopping, cleaning and getting place to place. A lot of vacationers only scratch the surface when visiting a country, but with home swapping, you create such a deeper, richer and more meaningful travel experience for yourself.

3. Start traveling green

A lot of travelers don’t realize this, but one of the largest contributors to our carbon footprint is air travel.

“On an individual level, there is no other human activity that emits as much over such a short period of time as aviation(Deustche Welle)

Flying is simply inevitable for travelers, however, we can do a lot more than refusing plastic straws or attempting to recycle while abroad.

Those who Airbnb often leave their home base vacant, which significantly exhausts energy and water. Although with home swapping, travelers are exchanging already existing resources, which is why it is the most sustainable form of travel accommodation.

4. Make connections with real people

Let’s face it, we’ve all ran into Airbnb scammers or awful hosts at least once on the site. It’s true, some places listed on Airbnb don’t actually exist, or if they do, it’s totally different than what was advertised…a.k.a. a complete dump of a place.

When you swap homes with a real person, couple or family, you know that their place is actually inhabitable. Also, since preparing a swap takes a bit of getting-to-know the other party, you end up creating connections with like-minded travelers from all over the world.
