Are we months away from the end of American Democracy?

In January, 1933 Adolf Hitler, head of the Nazi party became the chancellor of Germany. In February the Reichstag Fire Decree (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichstag_Fire_Decree) was enacted which stripped Germans of most of their civil rights including the right to free speech, the right to assemble and protest, and the right to due process. In March 1933, using a combination of coercion, bribes, and deceit the Enabling Act (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933) was signed into law. This gave Hitler the ability to enact and enforce laws without legislative consent. And just like that, Hitler transformed Germany from a democracy to an absolute authoritarian state in the span of just three months.

Is the US headed for the same fate? I don’t know, but I do think it’s naïve and dangerous to assume that it couldn’t happen here. Those Americans who still believe in the ideals of democracy and freedom need to prepare themselves to defend and potentially fight (literally) to defend those ideals.
