AI-based legal research platform significantly expands legal databases, launches negative treatment citator
SAN FRANCISCO, JULY 18, 2018 — With legacy research products, small law firms are often unable to access the full suite of services provided by a digital platform because of the excessive cost — but as of today, they no longer need to make this trade-off. Casetext today announces significant product and content enhancements to its legal research platform, providing legal researchers with an enriched and affordable legal research platform.
The new features offer small and mid-sized law firms access to the reliable information many considered only available to large, national practices. With this new release, Casetext’s services, powered by CARA A.I. technology, are now a one-stop shop for legal research. Casetext’s expanded legal databases now include statutes from all 50 states, as well as opinions from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Additionally, Casetext has launched a negative treatment citator, providing attorneys with far more certainty about the state of the law they’re researching and confidence they are not citing to overruled decisions.

Casetext’s negative treatment citator includes red flags on cases that have been overturned or negatively treated on appeal, instilling researchers with confidence that a case they are citing is still binding. In addition, litigators relying on state statutes in their legal research can now access them through a table of contents or by searching with keywords.
Over 250 small and mid-sized law offices have already embraced Casetext and CARA A.I. to compete with large law firms. For example, Moye White, a Denver-based firm that offers strategic counsel to national and international companies in transactions and disputes, is leveraging CARA to achieve greater efficiency and to improve outcomes for clients.
