Feedback on Motor Vehicles (All India Tourist Vehicles Authorisation and Permit) Rules, 2018 — FASTag. Review Convenience (?), Cost, Privacy, Data centralization.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways released new draft rules related to tourist vehicles permit sought comments. The clause 16(1) made mandatory installation of FASTag. We sought review of design, functioning, operations of FASTag and risks for consumer and state before any further mandatory push.
It is important for MoRTH and RBI (current payments regulator) to revisit the implementation details of the 2011 Report of the Experts Committee on Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), analyse, review the operations of NETC. Public consultations with all stakeholders must be organized on the merits and risks related to implementation difficulties, cost, privacy, data centralization, operational control with private monopoly entity before furthering the same to protect the interests of citizens as well as the state
