In the final days of Q3, 2022, we launched our AfriMyth Avatar generator and V1 of the Cassava app. This was a massive milestone for us as it set us squarely on the path toward our goal of bringing Web3 to Africa.

In the first 24 hours after launching the Avatar generator, more than 3,400 users had signed up to Cassava. We’re overwhelmed by the support our community has shown — thank you from all of us here at Cassava.

With the AfriMyth Avatar generator now running, we thought we’d take some time to explain how this release ties in with our broader mission. If you’re new to Cassava Network or still unsure what the Avatars have to do with Web3 rewards, this is the article for you.

Cassava ID: An introduction

Everyone loves rewards. Getting something is always great, and, weirdly enough, people respond very well to it. But there’s a key problem with any kind of large-scale rewards program.

How do you know who is eligible?

In the context of rewards for online activity, this is an interesting challenge. Not only does a reward program need to track the user who needs to be rewarded, but it needs to track the user’s activity as well. The program needs to do all of this while remaining safe from malicious attacks, bugs, and people attempting to game the system.

At Cassava, we solve this challenge with Cassava ID.

Your Cassava ID is a unique identifier in the Cassava ecosystem. It’s kind of like a passport — whenever you visit a partner site or perform an action that gets rewarded, your Cassava ID is stamped and reward points are assigned to you.

Your Cassava ID is yours, and yours alone. You can’t trade it with anyone else, just as you can’t trade your passport or identity. On the technical side of things, this is achieved through a special type of NFT that stays in one wallet forever.

Cassava ID is a complex system that supports the network that we’re building. For that reason, it takes a bit of time to develop. Special NFTs that can’t be traded are also a relatively new development in blockchain, meaning that we’re working with technology at the bleeding edge of crypto.

Because of this, Cassava ID isn’t ready yet. Our developers have been working hard on these protocols and will continue testing them until we are absolutely convinced of their security.

But that doesn’t mean we should wait for the fun to start 😉

AfriMyth Avatars: The face of Cassava ID

If your Cassava ID is your passport, your AfriMyth Avatar is your passport photo. But rather than a terrible shot of you with bad hair in some government office, your AfriMyth Avatar is a space to express yourself however you see fit.

An Avatar is a unique image generated by choosing different components on a base structure. You can make yours for free right now at app.cassava.network!

You currently don’t even need a blockchain wallet to make an AfriMyth Avatar. Just sign up with your email address and get creating!

We chose to launch with AfriMyth Avatars ahead of everything else to help get users excited for our project and to give as many people as possible the chance to participate in the Cassava ecosystem. Once Cassava ID is ready, your Avatar will move on to the blockchain and become the face of your Cassava rewards.

But your Avatar is much more than just a picture.

AfriMyth Avatars can be further customized with the use of NFT elements. Right now, we have one series of elements released — the AfriMyth props. You’ll soon be able to add elements like props, hats, pets, and other items to your AfriMyth Avatar to personalize it even more.

Your Cassava ID can’t be traded, but these NFT elements can be. Add them, remove them, trade them; your Avatar is yours to customize how you see fit.

These elements do more than just change the way the avatar looks too. Different NFT elements will change your rewards potential.

For example, you might purchase a rare staff NFT from a secondary market. When you equip it to your Avatar, the number of reward points you receive increases by 25%.

This is just an example and the final details of the elements and their modifiers will be released at a later date, but the concept is there — equip cool items, get more from the Cassava ecosystem ✨

The AfriMyth merge

We’re working hard on finishing the Cassava ID system as soon as we can, and at this point, we’re tentatively looking at late Q4 to early Q1 2023 for release. We’re prioritizing security and stability over rushing to market, so keep an eye on our channels for more updates.

Once ready, your AfriMyth Avatar will merge with your on-chain Cassava ID. The first steps toward this are already there — check your Cassava account today and you’ll notice that you already have a unique Cassava ID number there! Soon that’ll be on the blockchain and linked to your AfriMyth Avatar, and you’ll be earning great rewards for using the apps you already love using ❤️

We’ve got a lot to look forward to from Cassava: our token launch, Cassava ID, On-chain Achievement Tokens (OATs) and more AfriMyth NFT elements are all in the works. And with everything, those who hold AfriMyth Avatars have the potential to gain early access or other benefits every step of the way.

Making an Avatar is free, takes a few minutes, and is a lot of fun, so what are you waiting for? Head to the app today and create yours! And when you’re done, make it your profile picture on social media and tag us so that we can see it 😘
