Who are you and how will I benefit from you?

This may seem like a very direct question, but it really is the first thing that emerges in peoples’ minds when they hear about your brand.

“Your brand is how people perceive your business - both the impressions you can control and the ones you can’t.”

Choosing the right name for your business is one of many important steps when starting your very own recruitment company.

What seems like a very simple task may be a little more complicated than expected, but it’s absolutely worth investing your time into!

Wondering where to start? This post will guide you through your first step of launching your dream business in Hong Kong.

What’s in a name?

As an entrepreneur, your brand name will be one of the first and biggest commitments you make towards your company. It will impact your logo, your marketing, your reputation — everything related to the growth of your business.

Your brand name is ultimately what makes a statement about your company.

Quick Tip: You can use business name generator sites to brainstorm brand name ideas for your new business.

To start, you will need to make sure that your brand name is:

  1. Legal: make sure it does not infringe on any trademarks
  2. Available: the name is not the same or similar to another company
  3. Is not contrary to public interest
  4. Does not contain a combination of English letters and Chinese characters

Your brand name creates the first impression for your audience, so you need it to stand out in some way.

Ideally, you want to make sure the name you choose conveys the right and relevant message to make the desired first impression.

Quick Tip: You can use the Cyber Search Centre or Company Search Mobile Service sites for company name searches to find out whether your desired brand name is available.

Once you’ve come up with a brand name, start setting up your company website. It is recommended to check if your considered business name is also available as a web domain with the most common domain extension, such as ‘.com.hk’.

Why should your website be related to your brand name? So that it is more intuitive to find and conveniently accessible to your customers.
