If your gut feels wrong about it, it’s probably right.

This is a word of caution to inform you that there are fake and scam accounts on Medium too.

Bad actors are everywhere online nowadays.

They might not be a lot as of now since Medium is actively fighting against them by the second, but they could still be around.

The rule is simple: If any account is asking you to get off Medium and get in touch with them, especially on other social platforms like Telegram or WhatsApp, it’s probably a scam.

Here are 3 major red flags to look out for:

🚩 If the account looks like that of a big writer here responding to your comment and asking you to join a writer’s community off Medium.

🚩 If you are asked to pay any amount of money to join a community of writers, or for a writing job often with a pay that seems too good to be true.

🚩Sketchy English and a sense of urgency or pressure to pay the money just because “the offer will not last for long”.

If you notice any of the above in your interactions with these accounts (that’s if you interact with them in the first place, which you shouldn’t) know that you are dealing with a scammer.
