The Magic Fountain of Montjuic, better known in Catalan as the “Font Màgica” has become one of the main tourist attractions of Barcelona. This iconic fountain offers an unforgettable spectacle of lights, colours, and music and water stunts. It is located between Plaza de España and the National Museum of Catalonia, in the heart of Barcelona.

To make the show even more magical, it always starts right after sunset.

With a duration of approximately 15 minutes, the show repeats every half hour, always using a different musical and visual repertoire. So, do not worry if you are late to enjoy it, you just have to wait for the next show to start.

This fountain is a wonder in all possible ways, as much for the show realised in the fountain as for the views of the city you can enjoy from Montjuïc.

Brief history of the Montjuïc Fountain

Constructed by the engineer Carlos Bulgas in the year 1929 for the occasion of the Universal Exhibition that took place in the City of Barcelona. Its construction began a few years before the exhibition and no one believed that the work could be complete in time for the planned date, but only a year after the builders laid the first stone, the fountain inaugurated.

Since then, the Montjuïc Fountain has been gaining a lot of importance for both the city and its neighbour’s. Since 2013, it is where the bells and the Barcelona’s New Year’s Eve party are celebrated.
