Barcelona is a city full of beautiful places; Museums, buildings, squares with history, picturesque streets and of course is a city with a lot of passion for good gastronomy.

Many travellers make express stops in Barcelona, a few 24 hours that do nothing more than give them a small taste of what they could enjoy if they only had some more time.

But even if you have only one day to get to know the city, you can get some of the essence with the following tips to discover Barcelona in a day.

Define the time available and the place you want to visit

If you just have a single day to walk around Barcelona we recommend you to make a list of your priorities, including the places you most want to visit and how much time you want to spend.

There are a lot of emblematic places of Barcelona that you can not miss and the advantage over them is that many are directly connected with each other, for example, the great and well-known Avenida Diagonal of Barcelona connects directly with the most famous street in the city, The Paseo de Gracia.

Casa Batlló, Paseo de Gracia

As well as its name, Paseo de Gracia is a pedestrian street full of shops and different boutiques from the most prestigious fashion firms in the world, such as Chanel, Versace, Armani, Manolo Blanihk, Hugo Boss and Carolina Herrera. Some of Antoni Gaudí’s most famous works are on Paseo de Gracia, such as Casa Milà (La Pedrera) or Casa Batlló. You can also eat in excellent restaurants and stay in beautiful hotels, such as 5 stars hotel Barcelona.

Once you finish the Paseo de Gracia, if you keep going down the street you will arrive at the famous Plaza de Catalunya, the junction between the old city and the new district of l’Eixample.

Immediately connected to the Plaza de Catalunya there is the Rambla de Catalunya, a pedestrian walkway also filled with places where you can buy souvenirs, homemade ice cream, flowers and typical sweets. Walking along the rambla to the height of the metro station Liceu is the famous market La Boqueria”.

Boqueria Market

You can finish the tour at the end of the Rambla de Catalunya where the famous human statues of the rambla are found and that leads to Port Vell, to take a walk along the sea, or you can deviate a little before the end of the rambla and enter through the streets of the Gothic Quarter.

With this fast but complete route you can visit several of the most iconic places of the city of Barcelona, but surely you will want to return to discover more about this Mediterranean city.
